Three things accompany and fascinate me throughout my life: history, the fine arts and the fascination of aeroplanes and ships. In the many aspects of model making, these fascinations come together quite happily.

In this respect, I take the freedom to build anything and in any scale that occupies me. In practice, these are mainly aircraft in 1:48 and 1:32 scale, but lately the 1:72 and even the 1:144 scale have developed a great fascination for me.

As a child of the 1970s, I am aware of the scale in which the offers, possibilities and demands in plastic modelling have developed: we are living in truly great times... aren't we?

Do-335B-2 "M14": an aircraft with two faces!

Two models, one aircraft! The idea of depicting one and the same aircraft in two different paint schemes, which the aircraft wore at different times, can be an attractive undertaking in itself from a modelling point of view. However, [...]

Innovative, superior, ahead of its time- and rejected: the Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne

The original: Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne Some aircraft are astonishing - and the AH-56 Cheyenne undoubtedly belongs to this category. The appearance of this aircraft is astonishing, the flight performance amazes and the short but intense [...]

A true king of the skies! Beechcraft 200 King Air in the service of the Royal Air Force

Do you know this too? Almost all of my kits tend to have a long to very long stay in the various stacks and storerooms of my model building sanctuary before they actually make it to the workbench. Not so with this Beechcraft 200 King Air [...]

The bite of the cobra: AH-1G "Wretched Mildred", Vietnam 1971

Some aircraft look so impressive that, once seen, they remain in the memory. If this memorable appearance is combined with a dramatic mission history, it can happen that this aircraft becomes an "icon": the mere sight of it [...]

An "arrow" that was no longer shot: Do-335B-4 reconnaissance aircraft

Fighter, fighter-bomber, reconnaissance plane, night fighter, high-altitude reconnaissance plane, "destroyer": since the beginning of 1943, truly far-reaching plans were being pursued with the Do-335 "Arrow"! With [...]

A photo and its consequences: BMW 327 Touring Car

I will begin my words on this remarkable piece of automobile history with a confession: I am not an automobile connoisseur! I am also unfamiliar with the enthusiasm that arises in many car enthusiasts at the mere mention of the BMW car [...]

Stranger in a Strange Land: Fw 190 A-5, 325th FG, Lesina AB 1943

When dealing with World War II aviation, there is little opportunity to come across distinctly colourful or at least unusual paint schemes. Only in one area can one find a consistently high density of spectacular "special paint [...]

A 109 that has changed sides: Bf 109 G-10 "White 45" in the midst of the "Trieste Crisis”

In October 1953, the ground, naval and air forces of Italy and Yugoslavia confronted each other in the northern Adriatic around the city of Trieste, ready to enforce their countries' interests by force of arms if necessary. Trieste had [...]

A truly rare bird: Flettner FL 282 "Kolibri" V23 as US-prize aircraft, summer 1945

I would like to begin my contribution to the presentation of the FL 282 with a personal thought: my approach to aircraft modelling is fed by several sources, as is probably the case with most of us. One of them is the fascination with the [...]

One of the "last of the many"and the last of my Bf 109 Gustav quadruplet: Bf 109G-6, JG 302 in spring 1945

This model concludes a group of four Bf 109Gs that I treated myself to as a model-building start to the year. "Treat" is the right term, because what Eduard packs here in the boxes is indeed a well thought-out pampering [...]
