Baby boomer trying his hand at building models again for the first time. Things have certainly changed since I was 16. Tube cement, small testors bottles of paint and some decals, what more was needed? Started building again in 2009 and have begun learning some new skills and techniques ever since. Have lots of appreciation for those that do excellent work with this hobby, some of the results are truely museum quality. Hope to pass on a love for this hobby to my grandson.
My first off the bench for 2019 is Tamiya's old P-51D completed as an F-6D Recce bird from the 10th Photo Reconnaissance Group. This aircraft was flown by Lt. John R. "Red" Ellis, who obviously was from the great state of [...]
My entry in the RAF Group build includes this Hawker Typhoon from Hasegawa. This aircraft began with some troublesome shortcomings but was given the go ahead using the improved Saber IIA engine. The risks were considered reasonable since [...]
Another entry from what Louis Gardner has termed the "Bebout Curtiss Factory." This is my attempt at trying to build two kits at the same time, which is a bit of a challenge, but nothing as crazy as when Louis does 6 Spitfires at [...]
Just of my table is this P-40N Lulu Belle, driven by 2nd Lt Philip Adair. 2Lt Adair would make a name for himself by single handily attacking a flight of 24 Sally bombers escorted by 34 Oscar fighters. He bagged an Oscar, damaged 2 others [...]
Traveled up north to the USAF Museum to attend the marking of 100th Anniversary of the WWI, or as the event was titled Dawn Patrol Rendezvous. Well attended even for a brisk cloudy day, and there were lots of displays, antique cars, re-in [...]
My most recent addition to the Nose Art Group build is Tamiya's really nice but old P-51D, "Passion Wagon". This A/C was flown by Lt Arvil Roberson assigned to the 362nd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group. They were the first [...]
A co-worker along with our kicking and screaming wives made a trip up north to Port Clinton,Ohio, to the Liberty Aviation Museum and Tel-Con 2018. Some excellent work was on display and the bonus was being able to walk through their [...]
One of my contributions to the Nose Art Group Build started by Jaime Carreon. Big shout out to Jaime for starting this Group Build as it's been a lot of fun. The P-51D I'm posted depicts "Duchess Arlene" flown by 1Lt Robert W. [...]
Summer activities has consumed most of my modeling time but I was able to finally complete another Tuskegee Airman aircraft. The above represents a P-51C piloted by LTC Benjamin O. Davis of the 100th FS, 332nd FG in Ramitelli, Italy [...]
My final submission for this fun GB started by David Thomas. Really thought I was finished with this GB until I pulled this kit off the shelf. Why not enter one more just for fun, besides it's another P-40 for my collection. Built pretty [...]
