Baby boomer trying his hand at building models again for the first time. Things have certainly changed since I was 16. Tube cement, small testors bottles of paint and some decals, what more was needed? Started building again in 2009 and have begun learning some new skills and techniques ever since. Have lots of appreciation for those that do excellent work with this hobby, some of the results are truely museum quality. Hope to pass on a love for this hobby to my grandson.
Latest off the bench is the old Mauve kit depicted as the mount that Pilot Officer Geoffrey Fisken flew with 14 Squadron on Guadalcanal in 1943. Added a seat plus some Ultracast wheels to spice her up a bit. A combination of Tamiya paints [...]
Rosie is my entrance into the Teeth and Fangs GB here on iModeler. This A/C flew with the 49th Fighter Group, 7th Fighter squadron, and that's all the information I could find concerning this P-40. I did locate a single B/W photo of the [...]
Traveled up the road to Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport to see the 1911 Wright Flyer replica, and climb through some of the Collins Foundation aircraft. They were also selling rides on all aircraft today. Not spacious by any imagination, I [...]
After a stressful four weeks in North Carolina and at home I was able to travel down the Ohio River to attend the Louisville show. Lots of really nice models on the tables, 360+ to be exact. Here are some of the examples that caught my [...]
Spent a great Saturday at Dayton's annual show. Lots of vendors with some great deals and a total of 623 models on display. Below are just a sample of the quality of models that were on the tables. Bonus was talking to iModelers, Rick [...]
Latest off the bench is this old AM P-51A with some after market items. Really decent kit that one can assemble with not a lot of issues. Decent cockpit detail and over all shape is good, the only draw back is a rather thick canopy that [...]
Had an enjoyable day attending the annual Roscoe Turner model show in Indianapolis this Saturday. A very well attended show with over 600 models on display, plus plenty of vendors with good deals to be had. Below is just a small sample of [...]
I have a tendency to build kits during the winter months as it's tough to get the model mojo working when the weather is nice outside. This Academy kit is the latest off my bench, and one of the P-38 variances you don't see that often. [...]
Had the privilege to attend the IPMS Columbus, Ohio model show where 486 models were on display. Some exceptional work for all to see plus lots of vendors, and some good deals to be had. Bonus was three iModelers' came to discuss and [...]
Second build off the bench for 2019 is this HE162 A-2 Salamander. Wanted to build something unusual and with not a lot of parts for a quick relaxing build. This kit fulfills most of those requirements except most of the parts are rather [...]
