iModeler August Awards
Dear all, it's high time for our monthly iModeler retrospective, this time looking back at our August entries.
122 articles were added to the headlines by 54 authors, prompting no fewer than 1842 comments. That's equivalent to 16 comments per average article, a number that confirms iModeler's position as the web's most generously commented model presentation space!
Every month, all Headline contributions are included in our traditional honorary prize draw. We're awarding the Best in Show title to the entry that in the eyes of the jury represents the month's highlight in terms of modeling quality and presentation. In additional to this, we allot another award to a randomly chosen article to emphasize that all contributions to this site deserve recognition.
Please don't hesitate to join iModeler and take part in our next monthly roundup!.
iModeler Best in Show - August 2015
Regular readers of iModeler should be familar with the work of Jack Mugan @camaro1. Always interested in finding new techniques to try (and discover yet another application for his favorite stripes of decal rivets), Jack has shown us many models with distinct "personality". We simply could not resist his Challenger I, Mickey Thompson’s Bonneville beauty - an incredible double-build of a record-breaking car, with one of the models featuring a transparent body shell and full interior detail. As Jack said: "things ran amuck as they sometimes do, and in the end I found myself with two cars instead of one." With this increased challenge, the result paid off - it's a remarkable modeling achievement on a subject which is refreshingly off the beaten track. A big "like"!
But wait, there is more...
As said before, we are also awarding a prize as a token of appreciation to all our contributors. This is selected through an entirely random draw among all the entries of the month. This time, our lucky winner is Gary Brantley @garybrantley with Tamiya Douglas F4D-1 Skyray. Don't we just love those 1950's jets... thanks for sharing them at iModeler!
Honorable Mentions: Our Extraordinary Finalists
(in no particular order)
1. Michael Drover - 1/48th Royal Danish Air Force RF-84G
2. David Porter - 1/32 Tornado ECR
3. ALEXANDRE REZENDE - BELL UH-1B “Huey” – Monogram – 1:48
4. Danny Attree - 1/32 F-15A Streak Eagle
5. Eric Galliers - Wingnut Wings Rumpler C.VI Late
6. Mike Grant - Fine Molds 1/48 Ki-10 'Perry'
7. Robert Joseph Cookson - Eduard 1/48 Airco DH-2
No argument here, the choices are all excellent and well deserved.
This one was undoubtedly a tough choice. Jack's model is outstanding, to be sure. And the other selections are equally worthy of mention. But to my way of thinking (merely an opinion, mind you and taking nothing away from the other 'picks'), I don't see HOW you could possibly NOT choose that Streak Eagle for Model of the Month. Just my .02...
Jack, this is absolutely one of the best models I've seen on this site. Keep up the the good work, and thanks for sharing.
Hard to beat (or follow) that Challenger I model. Congratulations Jack, and indeed to all the winners.
Awesome models, tough field to pick from! Love the winner, great skills
My oh My! what a collection of pure talent! And I had a chance to do a close inspection of Mickey Thompson's Challenger at the NHRA museum here in Pomona CA. This model is perfect. It really is surprising how small the car is in real life. It is one of the finest in automotive engineering.
A big well done to all of you guys.
California Steve
🙂 ... Greetings ... 🙂 :
As I sit in front of my PC and see every model pictured in this post, it is very clear too me, that this "OUR HOBBY" is the greatest of all ( MY personal opinion ) as well as one with a vast variety. From schemes to techniques, creativity and imagination this one has it all. Very nice and outstanding model Jack. That SKYRAY model and picture stand out by itself, Gary , with respect I must say, there is something about that #3 on the nose area of that model that catches my eye ... 😉 ... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm !
Congratulations to all.
Excellent modelling, Congrats to the winners and the other entries !
Very nice selection. Well done, everyone.
All these models are superb and worthy winners. However, my vote would have gone to the F15 Streak Eagle. I think a winner should be picked per category. Cars, Armor, Aircraft, Ships, Figures, Vignettes, Dioramas, Motorcycles and Sci-fi. Congrats!
An interesting idea, but iModeler would go broke awarding a monthly prize "per category". LOL
That said, how would you propose to select the monthly "category"...and THEN the most deserved entry?
At least there was ONE member who concurred with my 'vote'...not that it matters.
Which brings up another point. I believe there was a suggestion a while back whereas the iModeler constituents would select - or at least have some input - as to the "Monthly Winner".
Something to consider, Martin (if you haven't already done so).
That said, some of the big exhibitions chose a best in category and then one overall winner; Telford comes to mind. There's always a chance that a particular category might be more statistically weighted to win because of the sheer number of the type submitted. The preponderance of aircraft is a case in point, but that doesn't detract from the quality of the offerings themselves.
Anyway, the models here are all noteworthy, and the fact that a car has been chosen this month (although with eight aircraft tagging along after) seems to buck the trend a little.
Again, well done everyone.
Congratulations Jack. Does my heart good to see an automotive subject get it's due consideration and rewards.
Congratulations to all those who built these terrific models.
I would think dividing the contest into categories would complicate things. Often there would be one (or none) entries in some categories (ships and sci-fi come to mind) and other categories would have blurry lines between them -
Jack, I was on holiday when you posted this and therefore missed it, I'm so glad you've won August's prize, it's fantastic, and a well deserved winner. That's not to say that the others are not equally well deserved, but it's great to see something other than yet another aeroplane win!
Congratulations to Jack for his incredible Challenger! Mickey Thompson would surely approve. Congrats also to all the other winners; there is so much great talent around here! I feel so lucky to have been named the month's random winner!
Congratulations to Jack and Gary and all the others.
Fine builds all of them.
Some amazing models again this month! Well done to Jack for securing a win for the automotive fans!
As always - outstanding contributions, and deserving winners!
I'm glad I don't have to make the choice every month. All this talent in one place!
Congratulations to everyone, just beautifully done!
Well deserved, Jack. Beautiful build as usual-shows virtuosity and versatility.
Gary, even though you "got lucky", your build is a winner on it's own merits. Great work.
great selection...well done
Congratulations for everyone! Great selection! That Bonnewille monster is real show stopper! All entries are just great!
