Tamiya 1/48th Fw190 D-9 Dora, Luftwaffe WWII ETO
First completed model for the new year. Tamiya's D-9 is an excellent kit. Straight forward build. Added just Eduard's cockpit zoom set and Eagle Strike Decals for the scheme of RLM 82/83/76. Really like this late camo scheme the Germans used at this point of the war. Using Polly Scale acrylics. RLM 66 for the cockpit, and RLM 02 for the landing gear bays, struts and doors. Also a set of Moskit exhaust manifolds for the engine. As I have had this kit in the stash since the 90's. I bought the exhausts around that time when they were available. I used Vallejo flat clear, but it leaves more of a satin finish, not quite flat as I would prefer. But it works. I did snap the step off when I had an oopsy but thank God that was the only mishap. Fumble fingers. Any way, one of the planned builds for the year on the board. Next up the F-8. Thanks for viewing.

I knew that was you as soon as I saw your house, Chuck (I recognized the color)...nice lookin' Dora, too.
Thanks Craig, actually the front of my workshop at home of course.
Very cool looking plane, and that colour scheme really suits it. Great start to 2017, keep them coming, Chuck.
Thanks George, the Fw 190 like the BF 109 can come with some really different schemes. Especially later in the war.
FW190 - just a great plane done real justice by this build! Beautiful.
Thanks Paul, the ultimate Fw 190.
Great looking Dora Chuck. I know that folks have said there are shape problems with The Tamiya kit, but being a bona fide Dora nut I really don't see it, at least no more so than any of the other kits. One thing they did get wrong is the wheel wells are closed like a standard FW-190 not open to the engine like on the Dora. To me though wheel wells are not something I worry much about unless they are just plain empty. On the other hand their canopy is far superior to the Eduard ones in shape and profile. I have built 3 Eduard kits, all were a struggle your Tamiya looks wonderful, great job!
Thanks Rob, you know I don't pay much attention to that much unless it is something major. And yes true about the see thru wheel wells for this variant. But I display everything sunnyside up. So really this detail is not an issue for me.
Goodjob on that. And good to get one done early.Goodstuff.
Thanks Anthony. Hopefully will try to keep to the schedule but have fun doing it.
Awesome job my friend ! I like the Tamiya Dora too. It builds very nicely. You have captured the look of a late war "Wurger". I have built the Hobby Boss and a Tamiya Dora. They both are good kits. Like Rob I don't worry too much about the wheel wells on the Tamiya kit.
Thanks for sharing.
This is the only Dora I have ever built to date, with one more 190 on the bench almost finished. An F-8 that is. I believe the HobbyBoss kit may be more fiddly.
Yep, I mean I virtually never turn my models upside down!
Only on a barrel roll when role playing on a pretend flight over the French countryside.
Very nice!
Thanks Greg
