iModeler January Awards

February 20, 2018 · in News · · 23 · 2.2K

Once again it is time for our monthly retrospective - a look back at some of the notable articles posted at this site during January.

January was a busy month, with 103 new entries adorning the headlines of iModeler during the period, prompting an impressive 1,881 comments and 26,000 individual article reads.

According to our long-standing tradition we are giving away a pair of awards as a token of appreciation to our contributiors. The jury panel this month were @editor, @halvarvonflake, @magnusf, @aisak and @raikisan.

Every month, all Headline contributions are included in our traditional honorary prize draw. We're looking for the entries that represent the month's highlight in terms of modeling quality and presentation. We also allot an award to a randomly chosen article to emphasize that all contributions to this site deserve recognition.

iModeler Best in Show - January 2018

The jury's Best in Show award goes to Won-hui Lee's 1/350 CV-6 USS Enterprise 1942 Late Version. Won-hui's work has grabbed our attention multiple times in the past, and this time the quality of the overall build, the attention to detail and the figure painting (yes, we are talking about a complete boxing ring scene in 1/350!) made for a very convincing Enterprise.

But wait, there is more! – the Random Award

We are also awarding a prize as a token of appreciation to all our contributors. This is selected through an entirely random draw among all the entries of the month. This time, our lucky winner is Gary Wiley and his Gallery UH-34 US Navy Rescue. It is always nice to see well-executed chopper models, and Gary's build makes no exception.

  1. An impressive start to 2018, all well deserved winners.

  2. Congratulations everybody!

  3. Well done and congratulations to all above, excellent work indeed.

  4. All well done and the Best of Show is an excellent choice.

  5. Usually I comment on how difficult the choice(s) must be each month to find the "best" model, given the quality of the contributors that present their builds here. But this time I have to say, IMO, that this one's a "no-brainer". Undoubtedly the "Best in Show" this time. Absolutely exemplary workmanship on the Enterprise!
However, all models exhibit the same level of work here. Congratulations one and all.

  6. Huge host of workmanship on display - well done all! And excellent choice for Best of Show.

  7. Well in the arena of modeling...like in pro-wrestling making a model of the Enterprise 'the Big E" is like giving a body slam to the competition. It kind of pushes everything out of the ring. Even thou the competition is made up of some pretty good heavy weights .

Its great to see the story/article The Wooden Bee and the Story of the Auca Five being recognized. I hope more articles get the recognition that they deserve. Not every Web modeling site even comes close to coming up with the articles that have been written.
Two thumbs up for the Gang of 12.

    • The story about the Wooden Bee and the Auca Five has to be the best that I have read on this website for a long time, and we normally have some seriously good stuff to read on a daily basis. Well done David.

  8. Very well done on a excellent build.

  9. Wow. I'm honored (even randomly). What a great group of modelers and some pretty incredible builds!

  10. Awesome work across the board from all the builders. Congratulations!

  11. Congratulations to all. Well deserved.
    Regards, Dirk The Netherlands.

  12. Congratulations Won-hui! Well deserved.

  13. I agree that Won-hui deserved this choice. His builds are always spectacular, each and every one of them. He is in a class of his own.

I am surprised to see my Hellcat in this group of Honorable Mentions. I am very happy it was picked however. This means a lot to me... (Sincerely it does), to be mentioned among the others who's modelling skill set is much greater than mine.

Thanks guys ! This is the BEST website ever...

    • Louis, your Hellcat was fabulous and we all know it!

    • Louis,

You suffer from having a good attitude and enthusiasm...I think its a social disease and is easily caught by modelers. The Hellcat series just spread it around and the writing and photos added to the mix and the judges were impressed enough to recognize your gifts and talents. More importantly I learn more about the subject and its history and I'm sure other folks caught the bug too.

  14. You're absolutely right, Louis - best website ever. We are all brothers.

  15. Another great display of skill and talent this all round month.
    congratulations to all.

  16. A nice hotlist, congrats to all!

  17. Now that is how you do boats... Well done to everyone!

  18. Congratulations everyone! Again all fantastic and inspiring work!
