Year of the Cat
OK... They are sharks teeth... but the AVG was also known as the "Flying Tigers" so I agree it may be a stretch. But so it goes... This is the superb Airfix P-40B. What can I say about all of the new Airfix kits that has not been said. They are outstanding and a real bargain for the buck. (I can't wait for the Sea Fury)
This again was a OOB quick build just to take my mind off of builds I had to do for others. There is nothing special about it as I used the kit decals and it was a joy to build.
OOB it represents the A/C of Flight Leader Robert R.T.Smith, in Kunming, China, 1942. Smith was one of the original "Tigers" and is credited with 8.90 victories (you figure the .90). Prior to joining the AVG he was a USAAF flight instructor at Randolph Field.
I certainly would not hesitate in building another one of these kits. Hats off to Airfix.
Great looking Flying Tiger!
Airfix just keeps on giving us the good ones. Yours turned out beautifully. Hard to imagine a P-40 without something toothy on the nose.
Nice clean build, Frank...I like it.
One of my Chinese friends wants me to build one of these for him, yours is only going to make matters worse. Great work on what appears to be a classic kit.
Kudos Frank on a nice looking cat, Two fingers and a cheers to you!
Frank, I would say that a Flying Tiger will ALWAYS fill the bill for a Year of the Cat plane! Beautifully done!
Man - you have been busy Frank! Another very nice build here.
Frank:
Excellent build!
Do you have some of your builds on display at Talbots in San Mateo?
Jeff
