T-28B Trojan NavAirTraining,VT-3, Heller 1/72

July 25, 2018 · in Aviation · · 14 · 2.4K

This is 's Fennec, done as a US Navy T-28B, training aircraft. had to remove the pylon mounts under the wings and a scoop on top of the forward fuselage. The decals area mish mash of spares, replicating an A/C from VT-3. Didn't add enough weight to the nose, so I made a tail stand. Photo 10, I took at NAS Jacksonville '76/76.

  1. Nicely done...looks great beside that Buckeye - where'd that pencil drawing come from?

  2. Nice work on the model and the cartoon looks great!

  3. Nice Trojan, Robert! I love that cartoon Lex too. I was privileged to tour that ship several times in the 1980s when she was in port at Pensacola. The WW2 scoreboard was still proudly displayed in the hangar bay.

  4. I've never been Navy (I was Army) but the pencil drawing is great!

The T-28 is great - you did a great paint job on it, 'specially sitting next to the Buckeye!

  5. As a former Army Tanker like Jeff, I really enjoyed this one Robert. There's a lot of truth in that drawing if you study it close.

I remember sitting in several T-28's as a kid that had just returned to the US from South / Central America back during the middle 1970's. The original picture you took and posted reminded me of that day ... 🙂 Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Your build looks really good in those colors...

  6. Robert, Very nice, I really like the look of the T-28 in this paint scheme. Normally I'd say blahh to this type of background as being too distracting to the model. But with this model it blends right in with the over all theme. I hope everyone take the time to see all the little details in this drawing, its really well done !

  7. Very nice! I've got this same Fenec kit that I want to modify as well, to match the USAF versions my dad trained in. (sorry for the watermark - currently have the slide on ebay)

  8. Hello Robert,
Interesting subject (trainers) and very attractive paint scheme.

  9. Nicely done Robert, I like it.

  10. Thank you all.

  11. This is one of my favorite aircraft. Your little T-28 came out awesome. Great job. There are several nice kits available today of this famous aircraft. When I built my old Monogram T-28 there was no other models available in that scale. I needed to go nuts trying to work on it to make it more detailed like a modern kit. Right after I finished that all these companies came out with T-28s from 1/48 to 1/32. Here is my old Monogram T-28.
