Yes, Another Tamiya P51-D

April 16, 2019 · in Aviation · · 10 · 2K

I know, everybody has done one of these. I even have two others on my own shelves. But this one came about because I was cruising around looking at hobby stuff on eBay and I came across the Tennessee National Guard decals by Caracal Models, and since I live in Tennessee, I had to do this one.

I learned that after World War II several states Air National Guard units received the as the Air Force began the transition to jet powered aircraft.

This model is a simple project, built straight out of the box, with no aftermarket detail parts. It is painted in several shades of Testors Metalizer and finished off with the aforementioned Caracal decals.

  1. Looks real good, Drew. I love all those yellow "tips!"

Don't apologise for trying to make a few lives easier by following directions with no aftermarket parts. You can't have TOO many P-51s or ANY OTHER model!

  2. Yeah...what Jeff said. Outstanding OOB build, my friend. Great first post, too. 🙂

  3. Very nice first article

  4. Great looking build!

  5. Welcome aboard Drew, and that's a fine looking pony as well.

  6. One pretty pony! Nice colorful scheme.Welcome!

  7. Yes, we've all built one. But that doesn't diminish the quality of your build—or the fact that it's just a darn cool bird and every modeler need at least one in the stable. Welcome aboard!

  8. Welcome aboard Drew! And that's a good looking Mustang you have here (says the guy who never built a Tamiya P-51D... But a B! A B does count, right? Oh well...)
Anyway, I hope we are going to see more from you!

  9. And in the summer of 1950, the Air Force grabbed every ANG F-51D they could, got 145 of them and loaded them on the USS Boxer and sent them to Korea, since all their jets were incapable of operating from the primitive airfields in Korea.

Very nice result with this. I like the paint work and the subdued weathering.

  10. Very nice - the scheme is great, and the build looks solid. Well done!
