U60 – Uboottyp IIC – 1/400 Mirage Hobby

June 24, 2019 · in Ships · · 12 · 3.1K

This is a Uboat type IIc – U60 – in its late 1940 guise. I have extensively reshaped and modified kiosque and the bow shape of the hull supplied in Mirage's kit. PE deck and limber holes came from Mirage's dedicated set no.00540025. All other fittings and details are scratchbuilt. The Medium Gray paint comes from WEM Colorcoats range, the Dark Gray comes from Lifecolor acrylics. The main issue – I have noticed it after the model was finished – the 2 cm AA gun position on deck reflects the Typ IIB boat and not IIC (it is about 5-6 mm too far aft).

  1. That is soo small a scale... Very nice build, thanks for sharing!

  2. Very nice build!

  3. Awesome. I bought several of these Mirage sub kits when they came out and then came to my senses when I realized how small they were. They are all sitting in my stash, but as I get older the chance they will ever get built gets smaller. You have done a terrific job on the detailing & painting.

  4. You must have the eyes of a hawk and the hands of a surgeon - outstanding work!

  5. Craig's right. Great work, I wouldn't believe it was such small scale if you didn't say so.

  6. Outstanding, Marek!

  7. Awesome build!

  8. I had this kit a few years ago, when I found an urge to build an U-boot. It was so tiny that my mojo faded fast, although it was the only kit available at affordable prices at my LHS.
Looking at yours pictures the kit looks a lot bigger than I recall, it’s a fantastic model, with a splendid paint and weathering

  9. Wonderful modeling.

  10. Thank you all for the nice words!
The Mirage kit is very outdated by now - hope someone will release injected Type II (in various versions) as well as Type XXIII in the 1/350 scale.
