1/48 Tamiya Focke-Wulf FW-190F-8
I haven't built one of these in awhile, so I decided to just relax and have some fun with it. Aside from a little putty around the area where the cowling meets the wings' leading edge, this kit goes together very well. The markings are for the winter camouflage option. I didn't like how it turned out, so I resprayed the RLM 74/75, and decided that this it what the machine looks in the summertime! All paints are Gunze-Sangyo Mr. Hobby aqueous acrylics.
Improvements include:
• Gun barrels drilled out
• Bare Metal Foil added to hydraulic oleo struts
• E-Z Line antenna
• Photoetch seat harness by Eduard.
• Auxiliary fuel tank from an Eduard Bf-109 kit.
• Morane antenna from an Eduard Bf-109 kit.
• Instrument dials individually punched from Airscale sheet
That is a terrific model! Well done.
A fantastic model out of the nice and solid Tamiya kit, James!
Looks great! I especially like the sheen on the paint job.
Yay! Real nice.
One mean lookin' Mo Fo. Great build.

About 20 years ago, I built the 1/48 Tamiya model of this same plane up shortly after reading a book I have on the restoration of the Focke Wulf 190 that is now on display at the NASM. I went with the winter time camouflage as directed to in the kit's instructions. I painted the front of the cowling red and covered the rest of the engine covers using Bare Metal Foil.
I was never happy with how mine looked either. Something about it just didn't seem correct. The thin squiggly white lines on top of the standard paint scheme didn't do it for me. I ended up with a lot of overspray on mine, which almost obliterated the underlying paint... Granted in real life, this would have been perfect...exactly what you would want.
Now after seeing how nice it looks in it's "summer time finish", I just might go back and give mine a new paint job...
Well done my friend. I like it ! Your FW looks fantastic.
I definitely pressed the "liked" button.
This is an awesome result, James.
Well done.
Good looking FW.
All of the above, great job!
Nice looking butcher bird James. The FW 190 is my favourite subject, you could build one every month for the rest of your life and never run out of interesting paint schemes! I like this one in it’s summer guise.
G'day James (@jkelleycrna),
I built this aircraft back in '07 with her winter coat on
On my build I originally painted the nose red but changed it to RLM 66 grey because red noses were a Russian thing. Also, I found a photo of the starboard side of this aircraft (99% sure) that showed the cowl on that side as natural metal, so i reasoned that the nose ring had been changed over too.
I love your build of her in summer dress.
