1/48 Bf-109G-2 Captured! Hasegawa Bf-109G-6 kit

November 1, 2021 · in Aviation · · 11 · 1.8K

As usual during a big build, I try to take a bit of a break and do a smaller concurrent build. I am currently building the ICM 1/48th He111Z-1 Zwilling (https://imodeler.com/groups/imperial-german-air-service-luftwaffe-group-build-may-1st-1910-to-present-day/forum/topic/he-111z-1-zwilling-1-48-icm-kit/). I was looking through my stash and found the Hobby Craft Bf109G-2 and one of the build options was a captured bird that looked fun, plus the kit had an umbrella. Well if you have been following along, you know I had a catastrophic accident with some thin set super glue. So back to the stash and I get Hasegawa's Bf-109G-2 kit. I added a KMC update kit which gave me a cockpit and some flight controls.

Honestly for me the main reason I picked this version was because of all the colors in the paint finish and I wanted an excuse to put an umbrella on a plane. The tropical Bf-109's actually had holders for an umbrella to protect the cockpit from the hot sun. I looked up some pictures from the internet and found one of a striped umbrella haphazardly put in a cockpit. I painted mine in a similar pattern to that one, adding even more color to the finished product.

In the end I am pretty happy with the results. Oh and for those that know more, you can recognize from the crash pictures that the plane was actually supposed to have a camera in the belly, but neither kit had that option.

  2. Amazing result, Walt @luftwaffe-birdman
The umbrella adds a lot to this colorful diorama.
A 109 is already a beautiful object, but a captured, colorful, umbrella wearing 109 is really something unique.

  3. Totally owns the beach in that outfit!

  4. Nice result Walt... liked!

  5. Nice work, love the whole scheme and umbrella!

  6. Fantastic model Walt. It’s the flying circus of the desert AF when it comes to colours. It’s a great variation from the standard African 109s
