Tamiya Tony

December 30, 2021 · in Aviation · · 10 · 1.5K

My last completed kit of 2021, here's my Hien. This was another fantastic kit from Tamiya. I used the camo decals which worked pretty well. I do wish Tamiya provided an open canopy option since there's pretty good detail in the cockpit which is somewhat difficult to see through the framed canopy.

I have the 1/48 version too and after doing this one, I'm excited to try that one. I think I'm going to attempt painting all the markings and camo. We shall see…

  1. A fantastic build, Scott! Unbelievable that it is "only" 1/72.
    Looking forward to your 1/48!

  2. Very nice. Great way to finish out the year. Looking forward to more great builds from you in 2022.

  3. Really nice result.

  4. This is an excellent build, Scott @guitarhack5
Those decals for the camouflage worked very well.

  5. Looks great, Scott, could easily pass for a bigger scale, really looking forward to your 1/48 version.

  6. Nice work! The decals look like they settled down really well. I have that same kit and this is one of the best fitting 1/72 kits that I ever assembled. I'm looking forward to try out the decals.

  7. Sweet build! I built a Hasegawa Tony and tried to use the Tamiya splotch decals on it, but had to give up - I made the mistake of not cutting them into more handle-able pieces and they just doubled up all over themselves! You achieved an excellent result with them.

  8. I'm impressed how you set such big camo decals!

  9. Your Ki-61 came out great! I had to make sure this was 1/72.
