An Old Basset

December 7, 2022 · in Aviation · · 20 · 1.2K

I don't know what possessed me (okay, it was probably the cool box art) but I saw this in the local hobby shop and had to take it home. First issued in 1968 it shows its age with a very simplified cockpit (although I'm sure the real deal isn't overly complicated) rivets galore, simplified landing gear, and mostly good fit. Having said that, I had a great time making this model! I like the look of the aircraft and the paint scheme looks sharp too.

I'm debating getting two more, a vacuform machine and really going to town on another one. But I probably won't. But maybe. But nah. But….

  1. That does look cool.

  2. Looks really great finished, Scott!
You don't see many of them built!

  3. What a smart looking little aircraft, that staggered demarcation line can't of been easy.
    Good work on this.

  4. It’s so smart I had to stand to attention when I saw it.

  5. Remember I built that a lifetime ago. Think it was in some red and white scheme... Airfix made cool looking box arts no matter they were more warlike or civilian like your box art.

  6. Looks great, Scott. Sometimes those unexpected builds get the mojo going and this one sure looks like it...nice job!

  7. Very nice work. Interesting colour-scheme of the prob-blades.
the Beagle-Basset was my very first 1:72 model - a gift from friends when i was about 12 and sick in bed. Befor i only ha built 1:100 Faller plane-models. I'd have liked to rebuild it, but I never saw a rerelease in a shop.

  8. That is a really cool A/C…very well built!

  9. Super nice, excellent work on this kit. This is a very sharp looking build.

  10. Very tidy looking ship.

  11. I have never seen a Basset (that wasn't on 4 legs)! Very cool aircraft, and well done model!

  12. Great result, Scott @guitarhack5
This looks a bit like a toyish little aircraft.

  13. Thank you all for the kind words! I did notice a little glitch on the inner wing in the head on photo. I'll be cleaning that up shortly.

  14. Nice looking aircraft. You did pretty well with what you had to work with.

  15. Beautiful build Scott (@guitarhack5), sharp looking model of a not too common aircraft.

I looked into getting this kit about two months ago and while checking things out I found a video of 'Prince' Charles prepping and flying the Basset.

  16. Nice work on a great looking plane. I’m glad they repopped this kit.

  17. Nicely done Scott, an oldie but a goodie.
