Tamiya 1/48 P-38G "Miss Virginia"
Here is my take on Tamiya's delightful 1/48 P-38 G/F. I found this for a really nice price online and the seller included a Brassin wheel set and Model Masters metal barrels which I added along with a Eduard Zoom instrument panel/belts to really make the detail stand out.
The build was pain free and I was impressed by the engineering and thought that went into the design of this kit. I attempted to add some brake lines to the main wheels (sadly they fell off) and I tried to replicate the seam taping that these aircraft underwent during their journey to their bases in the Pacific.
At the end of the day most of the tape contrast was covered up with layers of different shades of olive drab and khaki although it is pretty visible along the nose and top of the booms near the engines.
Detail and fit is outstanding- I have another one of these waiting in the stash and I am looking forward to building it in the near future.
Fine build and finish on this great kit. And nicely done weathering work.
Wonderful kit and build. One of my favorites from Tamiya.
Great build, Davie @dbutlr, and I love the finish...it looks great! I have one in my stash that I really want to build. Love seeing these kits built, the weathering on yours looks good, I know in the Pacific they took a beating from the fields they landed on and the sun beating down on them.
Came out really good, your tape work is very effective and good chipping wear too.
Very nice. The taping looks good. One thing a modeler can to to bring these out is to slap some Tamiya "Smoke" over the tape, to simulate the glue that was slapped over them - if it gets on the surrounding surface, so much the better since that happened, and it gives a faint outline to the taped area. Yours looks very good. The rest of the weathering and the detail painting of the cockpit is excellent.
Excellent result, David! Love the weathering!
Wonderful result on this excellent kit, David @dbutlr
The taping effect and also the other weathering effects are very nice.
Phenomenal weathering and chipping, very effective!
Great looking "38!
A beauty! The paintwork and weathering are excellent. Well done!
David @dbutir: Absolutely gorgeous Lightning! That’s some of the best realistic chipping I’ve seen.
Outstanding on all accounts David, great paintwork, most especially!
I don’t recall ever seeing a better looking P-38 model.
Excellent result, David, you’ve definitely hit a six with this one.

Great job, David. I especially like the paint chipping effect around the cockpit. Makes me want to get mine off the stash and build.
