Airfix 1:48 Scale, Curtiss P-40B, "Tomahawk" in RAF Service.

September 22, 2023 · in Aviation · · 28 · 548

's newer releases the past few years, of which this is one of, have really upped their game. In the past, some of their kits left a LOT to be desired, being little more than toys.
This kit is really nice and it's the second of three that were in the stash. Last one being reserved for an AVG bird. Who doesn't like a Shark Mouth on a P-40?

I used MRP Paints, Flory Washes, thinned oils and pastels, Infini Rigging Line, (1:48 scale), Quickboost exhaust and gun barrels, True Details weighted wheels. I also added a seat harness from paper strips. Decals are from Eagle Editions, and it is also my third submission to the Jerry Crandell Group Build.

Markings are for a machine assigned to Number 112 Squadron, Libya, 1941, and flown by P/O Jack Bartle.

Thanks for looking, and have a great Friday, y'all.

  1. Tres cool mon Frer. Looks likea P-40. Nothing wears a sharkface like a Tomahawk.

  2. What an amazing result, Frederick @fjs3
Did build this one myself and it was a pleasure to do, Airfix did good engineering on their new kits.
Yours does look way better than mine.

  3. Very very nice, Freddie!

  4. P-40 Heck yeah! Nice looking bird Frederick. @fjs3

  5. Well done Freddie, those early P-40's just look right. Like a fighter should look. I picked up one of these kits, it will be my first ever Airfix kit.

  6. Excellent job, Frederick!

  7. Nicely finished. Looks great.

  8. Awesome P-40, Frederick! Long live Capt. "Wild Bill" Kelso!

    • Thanks, Joe!
Funny movie too. My favorite scenes were,
1). Kelso chasing his plane down the road as it taxied away from the gas station, and
2). Dan Akroyd, after he blew his house to matchsticks with the 40mm gun, shooting at the Japanese submarine.

  9. I love Tomahawks in the desert scheme, Frederick (@fjs3). Well done.

  10. Very nice Tomahawk.

  11. Always good to see a nicely built Airfix kit.

  12. Super job, Frederick (@fjs3). I like Flory Washes myself and am glad they helped you achieve some outstanding weathering effects. Thank you for sharing your build.
