Flyg Of The Tiger
Greetings.
I keep saying I'll undertake something easier, but I never do.
This is the Airfix 1/48 de Havilland DH.82a done up as a Swedish Sk-11a machine from the 30s. It had a particularly long gestation period, as biplanes tend to do, although i had the SBS photo etched rigging set which made it easier. The set mostly worked like a charm but some of the main wires needed to be trimmed to fit. They were attached with white glue, as I've since learned one wants the flexibility so the wires don't buckle.
I also used SBS decals, which were slightly translucent, and spares box Sutton harness. Some copper wire was added for the fuel tank line.
Some (i assume early) Swedish Sk-11s had minor differences, one of which is that weird venturi tube where the pitot normally goes. From what i can see, they did not have fuselage venturis.
Next project is a monoplane (probably), but at this point anything is possible.
Thanks for looking.
Nicely done, Kyle. That eye catching scheme will proudly stand out on the shelf.
Really nice- I learned to fly in a tiger moth
Another excellent product of the K-K Aero Models Difficult Kits Division.
Very nice Kyle (@kopperhed). I always enjoy seeing biplanes finished and the Tiger Moth is such a pretty biplane. Its one of those planes that just look right. You've done an outstanding job on this kit. Well done.
Great looking Sk 11A! Never seen it done up in Swedish air force colours before, on my screen the colours look spot on. Yes, there were some odd details and one has to keep en eye open for differences between the individuals and also not trip on the differences between Sk 11 and Sk 11A, most noticeable would be the canvas versus plywood clad rear upper fuselage. A few facts and a nice photo of 5516 on skis can be found here https://www.avrosys.nu/aircraft/Skol/411sk11/411Sk11.htm
Very nice build, Kyle @kopperhed! Love the clean and colourful paintjob and the rigging - i have an SBS rigging set for the airfix gladiator. Anything in particular to look out for?
The Airfix kit is the easiest biplane Ive done besides the Fine Molds Ki-10. The only thing I’d say is watch out for the wheels. They are pre-bulged and flattened but they don’t sit right and look unnatural
Beautifully painted and detailed as usual. That one moved along fairly well. You missed a sludge spot by the fin.
Nice work! That PE rigging looks great. I took the easy way out on mine and used EZ line.
Excellent result, Kyle!
Love the scheme, which you replicated perfectly!
A wonderful result and a ditto scheme, Kyle @kopperhed
Definitely not an easy one.
A great looking Tiger Moth, love the Swedish livery.
A super Moth that certainly stands out Kyle. Nice one.
The detail work is fantastic, and the paint scheme a real standout! Nicely done!
