Tamiya Mercedes Benz 300SL (clear view edition) 1/24th
I chose this kit because it was the clear view version. I dont know why but i like these kits. I wasn't particularly liking the car, I just bought it for the clear baddy, I was pleasantly surprised.
The Merc 300SL was a trend setting machine, it had 3 liter inline straight 6 engine producing 175 HP.
The engine was mounted at 45 degree angle to allow clearance for low bonnet. In addition to the classic Gull-Wing doors which were necessary because of the frame design would not allow standard doors.
This kit was a joy to build and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great kit. It went together like a fine Swiss watch, in true Tamiya form. Although not trying to set a record I built it in 3 days
I have included some build progress photos if your like to view them.
The footwell red came out well but the rest of the inside was too bright and didn't match so I dulled it down with Tamiya Smoke spray TS-71 and it worked beautifully. If you are unfamiliar with this paint get some :). But be aware it sneaks up on you a tiny dusting goes a long way but it will cover very fast irreparably if you're not careful.
The dashboard was a bit of a puzzle as it was chrome and had to be partially red. So I masked part of painted it then used a q-tip to wipe off the chrome around the gauges and then applied the decals. Not perfect but I was please with the results
So here it is, yeah The Bike Queen can build other things as well 😉
I hope you enjoy viewing as much as I did building it…..
Turned out very well, Cricket, the interior looks great, a good idea to tone down the red with Tamiya’s smoke.
Looks awesome, Cricket!
Well done!
This looks really great, Cricket @bikequeen
Hard to believe you were able to build this in three days, it looks too complex to be able to achieve that.
Well done.
Looks pretty cool! 😎 Well done.
Wow, that's a beautiful model car, Cricket! 🤩 I love seeing its reflection in the base. Congratulations on a truly awesome build! 🏆
