Tamiya 1:48 N.A. P-51D Kit #61040 (1995)

January 30, 2025 · in Aviation · · 20 · 283

Another boring . This one used another option from the Lifelike decal sheet (two to go). This aircraft was used by Capt. "Don" Gentile during a state-side war bounds tour, at Wright Patterson Field, 1945. I believe he used a couple as another photo shows a different propeller, scoreboard scroll and glossy wings. Note this has rocket stubs, different tires and a different propeller. I grabbed rocket stubs from the stash, a Hasegawa P-51D. Wheels are from True Details, a tad small. The propeller blades came from a friend, from his Eduard kit. These were two piece so I had to separate them and shorten them to fit inside the spinner The only other mod I did was to close that pesky open slot behind the canopy with thin plastic card. All silver was done with Vallejo Metal. I tried to match Tamiya XF-7 to the red checkers... close. For some reason the fuselage stripe is a different red, the same shade as the "L" shaped marking on the flap. Weathering was done with AK47 pencils and my home-brewed wash mix of Future and Citadel Agrax Earthshade

  2. Nice work on this, I currently have one of these kits on the bench at the moment. Not as detailed as the new tool Eduard or Airfix releases but nice nonetheless and easy to build. Excellent result
