Tamiya 1:48 N.A. P-51D Kit #61040 (1995)
Another boring Tamiya. This one used another option from the Lifelike decal sheet (two to go). This aircraft was used by Capt. "Don" Gentile during a state-side war bounds tour, at Wright Patterson Field, 1945. I believe he used a couple as another photo shows a different propeller, scoreboard scroll and glossy wings. Note this has rocket stubs, different tires and a different propeller. I grabbed rocket stubs from the stash, a Hasegawa P-51D. Wheels are from True Details, a tad small. The propeller blades came from a friend, from his Eduard kit. These were two piece so I had to separate them and shorten them to fit inside the spinner The only other mod I did was to close that pesky open slot behind the canopy with thin plastic card. All silver was done with Vallejo Metal. I tried to match Tamiya XF-7 to the red checkers... close. For some reason the fuselage stripe is a different red, the same shade as the "L" shaped marking on the flap. Weathering was done with AK47 pencils and my home-brewed wash mix of Future and Citadel Agrax Earthshade
Very nice and clean!
Thanks. I figured being on a "rile em" up tour, it would be well looked after
Nice work on this, I currently have one of these kits on the bench at the moment. Not as detailed as the new tool Eduard or Airfix releases but nice nonetheless and easy to build. Excellent result
Thank you
Very nice George! Was fun to watch this come together on the WW2aircraft board. She looks really good.

Appreciated Jim (@jimh) and thanks for the photos; I noticed some extra details in them
Excellent Mustang, George!
Thank you very much Spiros
Really nice work done on this Mustang, George @blackadder57
A boring Tamiya?
Thank you John (@johnb) LOL. I finished one Christmas day and started this one right after. A one month build is very. very rare for me; most are in the four to five month period
Nice job on the build, George. The alterations are a great addition.
Thanks Gary. (@gwskat) That slot has always annoyed me and I final found a good picture of what it really looked like, an easy fix
A handsome little Pony!
Thanks Greg
Very sharp looking Mustang George!.
Thank you Dale
Love the checkered nose on this impressive build, George.
The Vallejo Metal looks excellent.
Thank you, other George
Nicely done George, she's a beauty of a build!
Thanks Bob
