Mustang IV. 19 Sqn. RAF. Late 1944.

May 13, 2022 · in Aviation · · 18 · 1.2K

Being a birthday present, this kit just had to be made carefully & not rushed. Well that certainly was the case here, as it's been on the bench for over twelve months, while I did extensive research. I was put off by the need to do a NMF if I chose one of the kit's marking schemes, and also the apparent need to find an Aeroproduct's propeller & cowling louvres for an RAF machine. I was fortunate to find the Extradecals RAF set with these markings, which meant that I could keep the kit prop as long as I could source the louvres, which came from Red Roo models; the bonus being that a camouflaged finish was in order as well. Paints used were Valleho Air for U.S. equivalent colours for this particular aircraft, so here it is in olive drab, sea grey & light grey. I also found photos of this aircraft on the internet, which helped enormously.

Not being a fan of open hatches, engine cowlings & so on, I've left her all buttoned up, except for the flaps & drooped elevators. She's also pretty clean, so I'm saying this is shortly after delivery! Anyway, It's a great kit & I enjoyed the build. Hope you like it!

  1. Excellent result, Tony and nice, subtle weathering.

  2. Fabulous looking mustang Tony!

  3. Great work, Tony. I like your choices for the US equivalent colors.

    • Thanks John. There's a lot on the web about these colours & camo patterns. Can be very confusing, so I read it all, just to be sure. The photos of this one were a big help as far as pattern was concerned & most references opted for the U.S. equivalents for colours.

  4. Great looking Mustang, Tony @tony-prince
Beautiful to see her in this British scheme.

  5. Nice. Great to see a RAF P-51.
They commissioned the type after all !

  6. Nice work, Tony. Can I assume this is an Eduard kit?

  7. Lovely! I like the Pony in Brit colors. This is a nice one.

  8. Good looking Pony, but as TC stated what kit did you use?

  9. Thank you Tom. I got carried away with writing my post & forgot to mention the kit & scale.
Yes it's the 1/32 Tamiya, OOB except for resin cowling louvres.

  10. Mustang looks great in RAF scheme!
