Production of the Focke-Wulf 190D-9 began in June 1944, with the earlier aircraft having a flat-topped Canopy but from factory number 210001 having the Galland Canopy (blown). On September 19, 1944, they were deployed with the III/JG 54 "Grünherz" in Achmer, where they flew Belgleitschutz from above for the then new Messerschmitt Bf 262 Schwalbe (
