Tamiya 1/48 P-51D "Louisiana Heatwave"
Tamiya kit
Eduard PE detail set
Aeromaster decals
I've wanted to do this scheme for two years now ever since I saw this decal sheet online. I lived in Louisiana for 6 years, got married there and my two girls were born there so this had a little bit of a personal connection for me.
I started this kit over a year ago but had to shelve it after assembly because I ruined the paint job trying spray cans. I gutted the model saving the cockpit, landing gear, prop, and a few other bits before throwing out the ruined fuselage and wings.
I later acquired another kit and was able to add the completed assemblies to the new model which sped along the construction process.
Looks great next to Janet/Eva May (Airfix kit)from the same decal sheet.
Happy modeling!
A superb result, David! Superb painting and weathering! An adventurous build due to spray cans mishap, which turned out excellent in the end.
Well done!
Thanks Spiros @fiveten! I'm looking forward to your P-39 completion in the near future!
A gorgeous pony David, wonderful looking results here. Liked this a lot!
The "Louisiana" looks great, David @dbutlr
I do understand you have a connection with it.
The painting and weathering is really nice.
Two really nice Mustangs David ,well done on both. In your opinion which is the better kit ?
Thanks @neil-foster for the kind words! If your looking for ease of build the Tamiya kit is a great choice. It still holds up well against the newer Airfix and Eduard offerings. However, in terms of pure accuracy and detail right out of the box, the Eduard kit can't be beat. It is a bit fussier than the Tamiya and Airfix Mustangs but the end result is gorgeous. Airfix is a close 2nd to the Eduard kit in terms of detail and is honestly my favorite of the 3 due to the price point, detail, and nice engineering all rolled into one package for around $30 or less
Nice job David @dbutlr, I have an Eduard kit in the stash that has the same markings included, and I must admit it caught my eye. Yours looks great. Despite the problems on the first attempt, canβt fault the finish this time.
Thank you @popeofchillitown Ben- would love to see your Eduard kit when it is built and finished!
Way to stick with it, David, the results speak for themselves...Well done!
Very nice work David @dbutir
Both look awesome, great job!
Magnificent Mustangs, David, pity about your mishap with the spray cans.
π β¦ Greetings β¦ π :
Nice work on that model David, your touch in the weathering aspect really give this model a unique look. Very well done and applied
Great work, David ! Both of your Mustangs are beauties.
Absolutely beautiful David. your paintwork & weathering are impressive. My sympathies about the spray can (me too!). Like you, I've built both Mustang kits & enjoyed them equally.
Thanks Tony! did you ever have any luck with spray cans? I might try them out again on something easy and low cost just to see if I can perfect it.
Really nice - the pair look good together - both great schemes! Well done.
Thanks @gkittinger!
