FW 190F-9 Green 2
This is the Eduard 1/48 FW 190F-8 ProfiPack. Wanted to do something different that almost put this kit in the rubbish bin.
It already comes with the correct cooling fan and larger propeller for the BMW 801TS amid the unused parts. But there is conflicting info saying all or some F-9s had a TA 152 tail. So ordered a resin one and cut the tail off. To find the resin tail was smaller at the fuselahe join. Yikes! Luckily had carefully cut the original with a Tamiya saw without issue. So reaffixed tail without putty or problems.
All the paints are Vallejo, Tamiya, or Mission Model. Muddied up the tires and brushed on some black powder for exhausts. That was the extent of weathering. PE fins for the PanzerBlitz rockets were beyond me so only the rails and a belly tank.
Decals came from an Aeromasters sheet for the Butcher Birds. Stencil decals are kit ones.
And that is my FW 190F-9 Green 2. Hope you like it Louis @lgardner.
Nice looking 190!
Greg,
Thanks. These two Wurgers were really side projects to keep me going on a frustrating Trumpeter 1/32 Ju 87B and death by stencil decals on the 1/48 Tamiya F-14A. Would take a break from those kits, follow Eduard instructions, and would have two Wurgers along with the other two kits finally done. So win!
Great comeback regarding the tail. A pair of Butcher Birds to be proud of.
Thank you John, they were fun to build even as I was reattaching the tail.
Ooof, had things like that happen before! Great recovery and nice build!
Rob,
Yeah I almost sank myself with this brainstorm. I still have in the stash an AM 1/48 Mustang Mk IA and the Ultracast conversion set to make it a pure Mk I along with a spare Mk IA just in case. 😉
Great save and a nice result.
Thank you Tom, that means a lot.

Very nice ! You did a fine job reattaching the tail section. You can't even tell it was cut off. That's a really cool looking base the planes are sitting on too. Well done ! Thank you for posting these. I personally don't care for PE rocket or bomb fins either, so I don't blame you one bit for that.
Louis you are very welcome.
It was mostly fun, save for the tale of a tail. As for the base, it was one given to me by a friend and it just looked the part to place 190s that were facing the Soviet juggernaut on.
Looks great, David (@kahu). All the added parts came together flawlessly. PE rocket and bomb fins are my personal nemesis.
Those PE rocket fins look like confetti and just looking at them I could hear the carpet monster mutter, "feed me!"
A tale with a happy ending.
George,
Yep it was a true tale of a tail. And I am still quite happy with the result.
Great save indeed, David! Love the final looks!
Thanks!
You did amazing work on saving that tail, David @kahu
Both do look amazing. Well done.
John thank you.
Both were fun builds, only Green 2 was a bit of a challenge due to my brainstorm. Got a few more Eduard 190s in the stash waiting to be built.
Nice work on the tail, looks good!
Thank you.
Nice pair of butcher birds, David @kahu. I would have pulled all my hair out dealing with that tail. Terrific save!
Thanks. I wasn't thinking too far ahead, thinking it would be a quick swap out. Ha! Just took my time with the saw cutting at the panel line saved me when it all turned south because I didn't bodge it all up. Made the reattachment pretty painless. Still I got lucky. And got a spiffy 190 out of the deal instead of it being in the garbage bin.
Very nice
