Airfix B-25B Mitchell 1/72
This is a B25 from the 34th bombardment squadron in 1941, according to Airfix. I was surprised to see how small the B25 actually is.
Painted with AK interactive and Ammo Mig acrylics. Panel line wash also by Ammo Mig. Someone posted a beautiful P40 in olive drab here and mentioned using a yellow green filter which looked spectacular. I gave it a try here and i think it really adds to the different olive drab tones.
The canopy once again has tiny spots or bubbles, i guess it comes from the casein glue i used to glue transparent parts. It is certainly frustrating seeing that at the very end of a long build, when excitement is building with the peeling of the masks..only to see that pop up.
Needless to say i produced another tailsitter here...a great kit, highly recommended! Besides, how can one not like a B25 in olive drab. I think it just fits. Happy modelling!
The B-25 looks great ! You did a fantastic job. The yellow-green filter you mentioned really makes the paint look more realistic. A++
Hi Jay @ssgt, thank you very much for your kind feedback! Yeah, i am very much satisfied with the effects of the filter. Doing more of that in the future!
How did you go about applying this filter?
Basically i sprayed different shades of olive drab and then a matt varnish. This would be all of my usual procedure. But this time around i sprayed an acrylic filter over the entire plane before laying down the matt varnish. That really is it. I am sure there are better ways to achieve different tones but overall i am very happy with the result.
Great Build! Did You use some weight in nose?
Hi Lis @lis, thanks a lot! Yeah i did, but not enough apparently, haha.
You need sth about 35 g of lead.
Gorgeous work I have this kit
Nice inspiration for me to pick it up!
Steve,
Dear Steven @sjcorvi, thank you very much for your compliments. Looking forward to seeing your build - it is a great Airfix kit, really.
Very, very nice Felix @fxrob. Looks like a terrific kit. I may have to open my wallet, again.
Hi Eric @eb801, go get that kit - it is great. Lots of detail, great fit and just a lovely plane in the end. Besides, new schemes are released later this year by Airfix.
Very nice indeed, Felix @fxrob
The OD came out perfectly, especially with the used filter.
Never saw a Mitchell with those large white crosses, do you know why there were applied on wings and fuselage.
Hi John @johnb
Thank you very much! Yeah, i am really pleased with filters and want to do more of that going forward. The crosses were used for a wargame exercise in early 1941 in the states.
Excellent job, Felix! A gorgeous looking B-25!
Jasou Spiros @fiveten, thanks a lot!
Brilliant work, Felix. Can't wait to build mine.
Hi Keld @keldkh, thanks a lot! You are in for a treat, the kit is great, apart from a few inaccuracies in the instructions.
Nice work, Felix! I built one last month and really enjoyed it too.
Dear John @j-healy, i know 🙂 Also, your canopy is pristine, it looks fantastic. Love your build, that paint scheme is enticing.
A beautiful looking build.
Hi John @jdtruby, thank you very much!
Nice work. I particularly like your paint job.
Casein glue is - as demonstrated - a bad idea for clear parts. Use good old white "Elmer's glue" (aka "school glue"). Works every time.
Dear Tom @tcinla
Thank you for your kind words! I have been using the Revell contacta clear glue which is advertised as glue for clear parts...well, i shall not use that in the future anymore. Maybe this also stems from the varnishes i used?
Beautiful! great variation on the OD finish. Well done- looks like this kit is a real winner
Hi David @dbutlr, thanks a lot! Yes, the kit is absolutely fantastic. I can highly recommend all of its versions.
Agreed about the filter. Beautiful finish!
Hi Brian @bapowellphys, thanks a lot for your kind feedback!
Well done - a fine looking Mitchell!
Dear Chas @chasbunch, thanks a lot!
Excellent build Felix.
Hi Rafi @blackmopane, thanks a lot!
A good looking Mitchell, and a nice build of this Airfix kit.
Thank you George @chinesegeorge! Another great Airfix kit!
Very nice build!
Hey Greg @gkittinger, thanks a lot! 🙂 If only those bubbles weren't there...
