As you may have figured out by now, I like to build larger aircraft types in .

This is the C-130E/H kit (1/72) built as a C-130A from 36SQN . Decals are from an Aussie Decals sheet and the A model propellers and fuel tanks come from Ozmods. I also added HF antenna wires using Eziline. As I recall the overall silver finish was Humbrol silver.

    Fairly awesome I would say!

  3. A real show-stopper, Ray. Beautiful work.

  4. Thanks very much guys, I no longer have this one as it was built for a Flight Engineer who used to fly them.
I will need to build one for myself one day.

  5. Impressive looking model, Ray, very good, clean finish.

  6. A different take on the classic C-130, nice paint work.

  7. Hello Ray, not the most "easy" color scheme. But you managed it.
    Looks like a winner.

  8. I flew C130A aircraft in the RAAF, as Co-pilot then Captain for 2000 hours, from early 1964 to mid 1967. This included Konfrontasi Indonesia and Viet Nam.

I really admire the quality of Ray's work on the A model. Nothing worse than being a critic but your website promotes the best quality of workmanship? First problem he has is that we did not have wire aerials on the RAAF A model or any RAAF C130 model thereafter. In fact we had single side band HF long range with about 8,000 nm range.

However, the RAF on their Hercules Mark 1, C130K models may have and they also included an astrodome over the flight deck, with a stool, so the formation commander, a Senior Army officer, could stand on a stool and see his troops! To my knowledge, no other C130 ever had such a requirement.

All of our countries had their quirks, often not necessarily related to reality when flying such as a "trash hawler", but we had our place and 3300 Australian medivacs during Viet Nam enjoyed their ride home in our noisy A models

Best regards to all C130 aircrew, from any country in the world, in whatever capacity they flew as aircrew, we all know what a great asset Lockheed gave us.

    Regards.

    Harvey R Ritchie

    • Thanks for the comment Harvey, always great to hear from someone who flew them, but I must disagree with you on the HF wire antennas on my model. I like to research antenna layout best I can on the models I build. I try and refer to images where I can, here is link to the ADF Serials website with a lot of info on RAAF aircraft including some imagery http://www.adf-gallery.com.au/gallery/Hercules-A97-212 The page I have referenced is for the subject of my build, A97-212. You will see the HF wire antennas in a lot of the images, our E and H models also had the same HF fit, just check the images for the other C-130s on the site. This model was actually built for an Ex C-130A Flight Eng who was very happy with the final result.
