Tamiya P-51 D Mustang 1/48
What is there to say a superb kit of an equally superb aircraft ,the stunning Mustang. For those who don't know this is one of those kits for everyone from a total novice with his first kit to a serious competition builder, you cannot go wrong.
I chose to build "Sad sack" flown by Major Merle J Gilbertson ,don't worry I'm not going to bore you to death with a mountain of information plagerised from the internet .The only pictures I can find of this particular aircraft show it with the long range paper drop tanks so I added the resin set you see here, I think the larger tanks look so much better than the small teardrop shaped tanks we normaly see.
I would love to build the blue nosed P-51 "this is it !" but up to now can't find a decal sheet in 1/48, any one got a set to sell or can point me in the right direction ?
I also added a small amount of weathering which I don't normaly do ,just some oil staining on the fuel fill up points and around the guns .This is one of my favourite builds so far ,hope you like it.

It's obviously one of those "classic" kits, which, as you rightly say, can be built completely OOB, or with some added detail, different decals, etc, can be made into something a little bit special, as you've done here. I like the subtle weathering, and that fuel tank definitely adds to the look of the model.
Thanks George ,most kind.

"...information plagerised from the internet..." - I like that definition, Neil. The old 'copy & paste' trick, huh..? Thanks for NOT doin' it. 🙂
Not on about anyone in particular of course -ahem ! 😉

Very nicely done Neil and I endorse your comments about wading through a post with a maze of historical facts about some aircraft type which have little or nothing to do with modeling.
You said Jim ,thanks for looking,N.
lovely piano keys
Thanks Bob.
Fine build Neil , as you said , one of the easiest kits to build.
And you done it well, I may add .
Thanks Simes, N.
Great looking Mustang! Would have loved to see a few more close-up and detail pics...
