I am a semi retired graphic designer and illustrator (www.bauschdesign.com}, and have been building models on and off since I was just a kid. I grew up in San Gabriel (southern California) from 1939 to 1947 (age 1 to 8), all during WW2, so at a very impressionable age, saw all kinds of warplanes flying over every day. Hence my interest and love of aircraft. Participated in the Air Force Art Program in the 1970's and 80's, and had several interesting flights as a result: supersonic in an F-106B at Tyndall AFB in 1972 at the William Tell ADC contest, tactical flight in a T-38 at Eglin AFB in 1973, and an 8 hour training flight in a B-52G out of Castle AFB in 1981. Also flew from Beale AFB to Farnborough in England in the C-141 support aircraft in September 1974, to see the landing of the SR-71 Blackbird after its record breaking flight New York to London. Met Lockheed's amazing designer, Kelly Johnson, at Farnborough on that trip. Things like this gave a great continuing of interest in aircraft, and it still continues today.
I built this one a couple of years ago. Wow, what a big airplane the F-101 is! Makes the F-105 look little! And those tiny wings. I have always liked the Voodoo, in some ways it is more distinctive looking than the more famous F-4 Phantom [...]
I was inspired to show this model because of George Williams’ post of April 17, of his Tamiya 1/12 Ducati 900 NCR racer.
This model was built quite a few years ago, and I just discovered it out in the garage, with the windshield and rear [...]
This one goes way back to at least 1978, so I built it at least 36 years ago, when we lived in the City. This is from the Monogram 1/48 B-24J kit.
It depicts Consolidated Liberator GR.VI, “O-Orange”, of No. 220 Squadron, RAF Coastal [...]
I finally was able to get a fairly decent photo of me with my 1/48 Airfix Gloster Javelin kit Best of Show award for February. Even managed to include the 1/48 Airfix Lightning that won it for me. And if you look closely you will see a [...]
This is my 2nd posting of an Airfix 1/48 English Electric Lightning. To put my Lightning model postings in the right order, this should have been the first, but I had the photos already for the F.6, so it became the first. I just took some [...]
The Lightning, one of my all time favorite aircraft, was designed by W. E. “Teddy” Petter, English Electric’s chief designer, after he had created the evergreen Canberra. And it was an absolute home run. In terms of flight [...]
This is the 2nd 1/32 P-51 I have done, first was the Hasegawa kit, which I did as the famous “Millie G” of the 55th Fighter Group. I was not entirely happy with the result, and probably will not post it on iModeler.
I had read the [...]
The Convair F-106 Delta Dart will always be one of my most favorite aircraft, and not just because I was able to fly supersonic in one, but that probably helped! In September 1972 I flew from McClellan AFB in California to Tyndall AFB on [...]
The USS Harder SS-257 was a Gato Class Fleet Submarine. She was built by the Electric Boat Company at Groton, Connecticut, and launched on 19 August, 1942. One of the most famous submarines of WW2, her skipper was Cmdr Samuel D. Dealey, [...]
The USS Bowfin, SS-287, was a Balao-class Fleet submarine. She was laid down at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard at Kittery, Maine, on 23 July 1942, and launched on 7 December 1942. She had a distinguished career in the Pacific, based mainly [...]
