Airfix Stuka 1:48
Here are a few photos of my Airfix Ju87 B-2/R, this is the new version of the Airfix kit which I have built for Airfix Model World Magazine and its featured in this month’s (April) edition. This is a lovely kit, very easy to build with a lot of detail but this was added to by using all of the Eduard sets available for the kit. Hope you enjoy the photos!

Great work again, Alan. Did you mask the interior of the canopy? I have the B-1 kit and have held off building it until I’ve firmly decided on a strategy for painting the clear parts. I don’t really like the way Airfix molded those opened sections.

Thanks John, yes I masked the interior, its a bit of a palaver but it looks good when its done.

There’s another way around the problem. I trimmed down the separate center section so that the separate forward canopy can fit over it correctly. Once you do that, with the rear canopy opened, you can’t see (unless you look very closely) what was done. This allowed me to do the interior framing on both sliding canopies without problems.

Again a fabulous outcome, need to get the edition of airfix magazine.

My only critique is that I’d like more photos, and specifically more close ups. Alan, once again you manage to take was was, frankly, an ugly warbird in real life and turn it into a thing of beauty. Amazing craftsmanship, sir.

Thanks David, I cant post more photographs I’m afraid as these are magazine builds. I might do what I did with the B-17 and when the next issue comes out, post some more photos if there is enough interest.
Jeff Bailey said on March 18, 2018
Alan, there is DEFINITELY enough interest! I understand about the limited amount of photos you can post, but we all don’t get that magazine – much as we might LIKE to!
Thanks for posting what you can.

Fantastic work Alan. Great to see the 1/48 Airfix version. I’m just about ready finishing the new tooled 1/72 version of this Stuka from Airfix.
Looking forward to your article in the next issue of AMW.
Thanks for sharing these pictures in advance.
Cheers, Ferry.

As David Thomas said, you took a basically homely aircraft and re-made it into a thing of beauty!

Alan, beautiful Stuka. I didn’t realize the B-2/R was out, this being the first one I’ve seen built.
Terry Schuler said on March 18, 2018
Alan, believe me when I say, this has to be one of the best Stukas I’ve seen. Really nice paint work and the over scheme is very attractive. This is really good !

Another gorgeous build Alan! I love the Stuka in that desert over-spray scheme, and did my first Stuka (1/72) in the same scheme.

What a beauty! Looking at it and I can hear the whining of the Stuka siren… Take cover!
Congrats Alan!
