Airfix 1/48 P-51D Mustang
Hello iModeler! Here is my Airfix Mustang, OOB with Kits World decals, I only added fuel lines to the external tanks and wiring to the radios behind the pilot seat. Kits World decals included the checker boards but not the stripes on the spinner and I wanted my yellows to match, so I masked and painted the checkerboards and spinner colors. This was also my first time with Alclad and I am hooked! This is not a perfect build but it was a confidence booster, and thanks to Alclad I now look forward to NMF builds instead of avoiding them.
As for the kit, excellent detail, extra options included in the box, great fit… i think I may build another Airfix Mustang just because I enjoyed this one so much! I highly recommend this kit!

That airfix kit gets a lot of love in these parts, and I can see why. Lovely work here, and hand painting the details does make a big difference. Now, if you tell me you painted the nose art…
Great modeling, Ramon, really nice post.

Great job Ramon. I’m also building the same kit as we speak and, yes, Alclad is great stuff. I’ve been using it for years. Seems to me the molding quality is not up to Airfix’s usual snuff. I found marks on the prop, landing gear covers and rear stabilizers. The styrene seems softer than usual.
Did you come across any imperfections?

Thanks Eric! I don’t recall any molding errors but I did notice how soft the plastic was…

Nice work on this. The Airfix Mustang is hard to beat.
You might try Vallejo metalizer paints, if you want to have a stress-free project (no Vallejo paint will eat your model, several Alclad colors will if you’re not careful). Also no stench to deal with.

Thank you Tom! I have been experimenting with Vallejo metallics as well but I was recently convinced to give Alclad a try and I am glad I did!
