Great Wall Hobby FW189 Eagle Owl
Another great kit. Flawless fit, beautifully detailed. I think I overdid the paintwork – I should have scaled down the colours, as I was planning to. I’ll probably add a few more details with weathering powders, once the top coat of matt varnish has fully set.

Looks GREAT, Robert!
I’ve heard the phrase “scaling down the colours” but I don’t know what is meant.

Sometimes 100% accurate colors just don’t look right on a smaller subject and need to be adjusted for scale. Think of it as the TLAR method. I learned it from this book which was my builder reference when I started getting semi-serious. (Along with tips from Al Jones and Paul Boyer who used to trek up from Milwaukee for our monthly meetings.)

Here’s an article about scale colour, Jeff

….and here for aircraft colours.

Myself, I just paint with what I have unless the subject actually does have signs of spot fading or new paint added, then I’ll weather down the original paint and add unalterated “fresh” paint
