1/48 Airfix P-40 Tomahawk IIb
Piloted by Australian Ace Jack Bartle 112 Sqd., Egypt October 1941. Aftermarket items include Ultracast prop/spinner and seat, with Brengun gun sight along with a Master gun barrel set which has a very nice pitot head along with a ring and bead sight. Additional details added were canopy slide rails, brass tubing for the under belly drain pipes and lead wire to replicate brake lines on the main landing gear. I also sanded off the incorrect rudder upper hinge and added a fabricated hinge to the upper port side of the rudder. The most fun part of this project was trying to get a realistic weathered finish as these planes operated in the hostile environment of the Sahara Desert. I used Polly Scale Dark Earth with Color of Eagles Middlestone for the upper surfaces and Polly Scale Azure Blue for the undersides. Burnt Umber oil wash, pastels, silver pencil and Mission Models dust put the final touches on the this. The decals for the shark mouth and boxing kangaroo are from the Trumpeter kit, the rest are from the Aeromaster sheet "Wings Over the Sahara".
Nice, subtle camo job...I like it.
Dale, great looking P-40, I really like the desert scheme and the weathering effect you've applied to it !
I really like the painting. The values and intensities of the various colors and shades of a/c all come together to make it look convincing. It looks like a P-40 and not a plastic kit of a P-40. Two thumbs up Dale.

Nice looking model of a P-40 in desert camouflage, which I add is very well done Dale.
Beautifully weathered and faded...!
Nice paintwork - as usual.
