Mustang Tuskegee Airmen

Around a year ago I decided to build an , it would be the third Mustang (all in 1/72 and all Airfix) in my collection but the first one with a lot of new things going on for it. When I returned back to the hobby around 5 years ago, this kit was the first one I did after a 25 year break. Back then (5 years ago) I did it straight out of the box and hand brushed it with Humbrol enamels.

Back to this kit, though; this time around I used AK xtreme Metal for the paint and Humbrol enamels for the drab and the red, I also added a Jeep in 1/72 (from Airfix as well) and the figures where from the USAAF Airfix ground crew in 1/72.

The Marston Matting was from Italeri in 1/72, the italeri matting comes as a whole and so I took the tedious task of hand drilling each hole (1700 + holes).

The Aircraft is that of 1st. Lieutenant Spurgeon Neil Ellington, more info about him can be found in the following link : https://northcarolinaroom.wordpress.com/2014/06/19/lollipoop-ii-a-saga/
I also added a small minute picture of his beloved in the cockpit area.

Enjoy

    Amazing detailing for the scale.

  6. Beautiful work, Christopher, and an amazing display of skill and patience for those Marston holes! I live a bit east of W-S and have decals for this a/c, never suspecting that the history of this brave airman had origins so nearby. I grew up even closer to the school at Sedelia, now a museum and historic site. Thank you for sharing your modeling talents and their awesome results, and the link and info about Lt. Ellington. Congratulations on completing this amazing diorama!

  9. Very nicely done - love the Tuskegee scheme, and a nice diorama to go with it.

  10. Beautiful job on this Mustang and the the base it’s on too.
The whole display looks nice. 1/72 is a difficulty scale.

  11. @chupajs I like your build! What color of underarridge bays in wings did you use?
