Tamiya, 1:48 scale, Mitsubishi G4M1, Model 11, "Isshikirikko", (Land Attack Plane), Reporting Name - 'Betty'

Howdy Y'all

This is an older build from a few years back. Pretty much OOB, except for the True Details weighted wheels.
Paint was the old Aeromaster Enamels line, (Think Floquil Military). Decals are from the kit, aerial is stretched sprue.

I drilled all the defensive weapons and added paper belts. Weathering was thinned oils and pastel chalk.

I found this to be a very enjoyable build, and if I could find something to complain about, it's the lack of detail inside the cockpit, which is very easy to see under the huge greenhouse. You can either build this model as a standard level bomber, or as a torpedo bomber.
Markings are for a G4M1, assigned to the Kanoya Naval Fighter Group. This was one of the groups that successfully attacked and sank HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse, on 10 December, 1941.

  1. Nice work, Freddie. I think the kit is a monument to "do this at a price." It's a big model (nearly the size of a B-17), and they wanted to keep it "affordable", so...

You definitely got a great result from what was there.

  2. Fantastic job, Frederick! Indeed, a good kit with a not too detailed interior.

  3. Very nice work on this Betty, Fredrick @fjs3

  4. Such fantastic build!

  5. Great job!
I regularly see this model on sale, and when bought from Japan it's pretty cheap indeed. But I've so far resisted buying it as it would be a huge undertaking to build it.
You however have proven that it's still pretty good right out of the box. Nice job!

  6. Another early Tamiya uber kit. Looks like a "Betty" to me. Nicely done.

  7. Great looking "Betty".

  8. Awesome. I need one of these. I had one in my hands a few years ago but it was under consignment and the hobby shop would accept only cash. By the time I got back with the cash it was gone

  9. I have one for sale if you still want it, George. 😉

  10. Nice build of the ole Type One Lighter. Looks like Tam did something similar to the Monogram series in terms of level of detail.

  11. Great looking scale model, Freddie @fjs3!

  12. Nice looking Betty, not a kit that you see displayed very often.

  13. Looks great! I like all of the Japanese twin-engined bombers, and this is one nice "Cigar!"

  14. @fjs3 A Beautiful Betty Fredrick!
