A Shot In the Dark: the too-little-too-late Latin Archer.

This is the Special Hobby ‘Sagittario'. A decent enough kit but not without its issues.

It was troubled by an ill-fitting cockpit tub and wheel wells, the latter needing ridiculous amounts of plastic shaved off both the wells and wing tops. The upper nose ‘insert' needs to be filled in and the cockpit pieces didn't want to fit together either. Besides that it's a straight forward single engine build.

I added SH's own proprietary resin supercharger tube and wheels, and Brengun's PE detail set. The PE set is especially awesome as it gives the builder seat harnesses and new radiator flaps and landing gear covers— out of the box the landing gear looks clunky and oversized without it. The decals are fussy and refuse to settle down with Solvaset.

Unfortunately the kit has a one piece canopy— I cut mine to pose it open. For the green paint I tried MRP for the first time and it is good stuff, as long as you don't mind going slow and applying the thin paint as a sort of glaze.

A true muscle car of the sky, the 2005 is one of my favorites. Thanks for looking.

  1. Thanks for the "map to the minefield." I have this kit and your comments will be helpful. Where did you get the Brengun set for the kit?

    • Hannants, the one-stop shop for all of the discerning modeler’s needs©️.

You’ll find the PE, resin and masks if you want them. Unfortunately no vacuform canopy.

  2. beautiful work! congratulations!

  3. A very cool model Kyle, congrats and thanks for posting this rare beauty.
I totally agree with you, the Sagitário was in its day a thoroughbred fighter, probably the best design made in Italy in WW2, and has some sleek lines also.
Between SH and the Sword Kit let the devil choose… I guess both are buildable, with more or less effort, and can be a very attractive model as yours, but both fell short of what they could offer in detail and finesse

  4. Nicely done Kyle!

  5. A real Italian beauty.

  6. Nice work, Kyle. I built that kit a few years ago too and gained some muscle sanding that wheel well. I dropped and crushed my canopy. I sourced a vac one from a shop in Australia.

  7. Fantastic job on a challenging kit, Kyle!

  8. Excellent result, Kyle @kopperhed
You clearly tackled this difficult kit with this great finished Re2005.

  9. "Muscle car of the sky" I like that description! Very nice build of a great airplane! I have yet to build a Special Hobby product. SH offers a wide variety of WW2 Italian a/c. Italy created some truly competitive and well-designed fighter planes that don't get the same attention or press as the aircraft of other nations in the MTO. Great work in overcoming the fit problems and others issues, a really nice model as a result!

  10. A nice build of a sleek aircraft! Love the Italian designs.

  11. Italian planes of WW2 Too pretty for fighting. Lovely finish and build Kyle
