1/48 Accurate Miniatures P-51C
Started in 23 but finally finished is my first completion in 2024. It is the old A/M P-51C kit which is a P-51B with the tail fillet joint. For some reason I seem to be concentrating on checker tail birds especially those from the 325th FG. This model represents "Hairless Joe" flown by Lieutenant Joe Smith of the 319th FS.
Built pretty much out of the box, however, I did add a Yalu IP, and Ultracast exhause stacks and a seat. Paints were Tamiya Gloss Aluminum and Flat Yellow with a semi-matt finish coat. Nylon threat was used for the antenna and a Pitt-Pen to highlight the panel lines. For a better view of the cockpit I cut open the canopy. Decals were Eagle Strike 48091 and they performed very well to include the checks. It's one of my better 3 footers and it looks nice on the shelf. Up next a Monogram P-47D Razorback just for some fun.
Nice one Tom (@tom-bebout). Hope to see it live and in color in April.
A fine looking machine Tom. I have yet to build a B/C version
Looks great in that livery. @tom-bebout
Another beauty, Tom!
Looks superb!
Well done Paul, I like the AM Mustangs. They were quite the hit when they first appeared in the 90's. I built the A-36 Apache and the P-51/Mk.1 right off the bat, and then got the P-51C which is still in the stash ever since. This one is a pretty good motivator to maybe get around to build. But a few projects are coming up so maybe towards the of the year. (sheesh it will feel like 2 weeks as fast as the days just fly by these days). Love the silver finish, the Mustang loves to wear the natural look. thanks for sharing
Very nice work on this checker tail Mustang, Tom @tom-bebout
I can imagine this looks great on your shelf.
Nice build!
Lovely finish on this.
Turned out looking great !
This is really nice Tom. Looks really good.
G’day Tom (@tom-bebout),
This is a great build.
I’m a late convert to AM kits - I’m in the middle of an Italeri boxing of the Grumman Avenger.
I’ve built the P-51 and P-51A and acquired an A-36 last year and have been keeping an eye out for the AM P-51C boxing so I can do one with the fin fillet.
Awesome!

Beautiful Mustang Tom. I'm a big fan of the "Checker Tail Clan" aircraft of the 325th FG. I'm also a fan of the Accenture Minitures Mustangs, I have them all in the stash. I've always been surprised they did there B/C model with the fin fillet, you never see many photos of actual planes with it. It's nice to see there's decals for it.
Excellent build. I got on the AM bandwagon years ago and built about everything they offered. Great stuff!
Nice one! I'm a big fan of the fast-back Mustangs, and those markings are a real standout. Well done!
Well done, Tom
