It's Duck season.

October 9, 2024 · in Aviation · · 21 · 80

Merit 1/48 Grumman J2-5 Duck of the Air Photographic Unit Atlantic-3, 1941. Very nice build, going together better than expected. I painted the tail markings to avoid potential decal adhesion problems.
Looks great amongst my growing seaplane/floatplane collection. Thanks for looking.

The paint work looks really nice.

  8. Very nice! Great weathering to break up the monochromatic scheme.

  9. Good looking build Paul, @paulwoodyvanacker. Good looking markings that really make it pop and I always liked that red and white striped rudder. I am curious about the quality of the kit, I built the Classic Airframes kit and found it very challenging. How did the Merit kit go together? How was the quality of the parts?

    • Hi mate,
Thank you. I found the Merit kit to be very nice to build, with no problems at all. A great fit overall. The decals weren't the best. Alot of softner to make it conform to the wings. No silvering though. I think painting the tail markings is a must, especially with the kit decals. Probably wouldn't have come out so good.
But this is the kit to get if you want to do another.
      Paul.

  11. Excellent result, Paul!

  12. Nicely done Duck. I built the old Classic Airframes version many years ago, it looks like the Merit version might have been easier - I had a few issues with the CA kit, mainly the landing gear. I gave up and built it gear up!
