Having served in the RAAF and worked on the Falcon 900 business jet used as a VIP transport at no 34 Squadron I had to have a model of one. At the time I started this project there were no 1/72 kits available (July 2004).
I found out that another modeller had built one and he passed on the information that the Hasegawa 1/48 Falcon 10 kit was a good starting point. I was able to use the wings, horizontal stabilisers and part of the fuselage from the kit. The rest was various pieces of plastic card and tube and a lot of putty, filing and sanding. The engines were resin and cast by the friend who had already completed the build.
So why 11 years for the build? Well I suppose my ambitions did not match my modeling skills when I started it. The project went through a few different stages and I tried a few different ideas. I also left it for long periods when things got 'too hard' and was trying to figure out shape and other issues.
In the end I decided on the easy option of a desktop style model.
It is now complete and I am happy with the the outcome. Since I started this model there have been two limited run kits released, one vacform and the other resin (isn't that always the case?).
The "desktop" version looks mighty fine from where I sit. Nice work!
Thanks Craig, very happy with the final result
