Baby boomer trying his hand at building models again for the first time. Things have certainly changed since I was 16. Tube cement, small testors bottles of paint and some decals, what more was needed? Started building again in 2009 and have begun learning some new skills and techniques ever since. Have lots of appreciation for those that do excellent work with this hobby, some of the results are truely museum quality. Hope to pass on a love for this hobby to my grandson.
Latest off the bench is Eduard's kit of the P-400 Airacobra. With lots of spare time, because of the Covid-19 shelter in place orders, I've used this time to reduce some of my stash. Lots has been written about this kit as well as why it's [...]
I do enjoy building other subjects than P-40's especially when an actual person can be associated with a model. This is my rendition of Cpt. Edward"Bud" Shaw's Corsair when he served with VMF-213 with the Cactus Air Force on [...]
Just another P-40 from the Bebout Curtiss Factory, this one from Hasegawa. If you've build any of their P-40's you know they use various plug in parts, enabling them to produce several different P-40 versions using a base air frame. Many [...]
Thought it was time for Tommy's TomaHawk/WarHawk factory to gear up production again. Also because we all seem to have plenty of time here in Ohio for building kits. Took this old AMT kit and added an aftermarket seat, exhause stacks and [...]
This is my latest off the bench and one that gave me lots of problems. Most if not all of the issues were self inflicted. The kit supplied cockpit is OK but wanting more I found a True Detail set a.k.a. Victor, that I was really happy [...]
Latest off the bench is LTC Robert Rowland's "Miss Mutt" which also carried the marking Pride of Lodi, Ohio. Rowland's birth place was in fact Lodi, Ohio, where he was born in 1917. He graduated in 1935 and then attended Ohio [...]
This build is a tribute to my late mother and is not representative of any P-38 that actually flew. However, I did steal the nose work idea from Richard Bongs' P-38. Years ago when I started building models again mom asked me if I would [...]
Some additional pics from the really large Cleveland model show, where competition was strong. Seemed every modeler came with their A game. And of course Jim Harley comes with his one little model placed in the bottom of the kits box and [...]
Oh no, not another P-40 Tom! Yep this happens to be number 19 in my collection with five more build able kits in the stash. Had been looking for a P-40K for some time now so I could build this colorful version flown by Lt R. Johnson [...]
The Bebout Curtiss P-40 factory decided it was time to build another pony. Actually, I started this model as a duel build along with my P-40M Wairarapa Wildcat. However, disaster stuck as the Tamiya decals broke into hundreds of little [...]
