I started building models back in the 1960's. In the 70's and 80's is when I built most of my kits. 1/72 scale, WWII is what I built the most but I do like 1/48 single engine fighters too. I have also built jets from the 50's, a few Sci Fi models and Gemini/Apollo program model kits from Revell and Monogram. My favorite builds are the old Revell, Matchbox, Frog and Airfix kits that needed some work but showed potential if built out of the box. In April 2020 I made my comeback into this great hobby after 30 years of not building a kit. I am pretty happy to be back.
My second Hurricane build in the past 6 weeks. I’ve been involved on a few different group builds in Facebook since April. One was “The Shelf of Doom” in which I finally completed my recent Sea Fury and Vacuform MBR-2. The other two [...]
The Russian MBR-2 was designed by Georgy Mikhailovich Beriev and first flew in 1931, this was his first plane that he designed and put into production. From October 1934 to 1968, he ran the Central Design Office for marine aircraft in [...]
An oldie but goodie, Heller originally released this kit in 1977. This was my third build of this kit, my first was in 1978 and at the time I felt it was the best Hurricane Mk. II in 1/72 scale. Most of this build was straight out of the [...]
I started this build probably near the end of 1989, the year this kit was released. I got as far as airbrushing the Sky Type S paint on to it but stopped and left it on my shelf. As time went by the box and the rest of the parts for this [...]
Here are two kits that I've been wanting to build together for a long time. Years ago, I build the Monogram Bearcat just a few years after it was released and a few years after Frog released their Bearcat, but this was a hard one to catch [...]
Red Star was a small model company in England that used four molds that were made by Frog around 1976. That year Frog folded and was not able to release their newer kits. While most of their molds went to Novo and Matchbox/Revell, the [...]
This is my Hasegawa 1/72 Ki-61 and it is a very nice kit that was first released in 1973. It is also one of the first kits that Hasegawa made with complete recessed panel lines in which as we closed in to the 80's Hasegawa, Tamiya, Otaki, [...]
These are my builds for 2021. My main goals were to have at least one build for each month, at least one multi-eng plane for the year, at least one vacuform build for the year and to try to have a resin build in which that would be my [...]
Heller's Heinkel He-112B, kit No. 240 fist released in 1979.
This was a very enjoyable build. It went together with no issues. I used decals from an RS Model kit and insignias from the Heller kit. I found the details to be nice enough [...]
This build was made for a group build called, "in Serving Under Another Flag." and I built Rareplane's I/72 vacuform He-112. This is an early Rareplane kit that was released in 1971. I used the Spanish National markings from the [...]
