I started building models back in the 1960's. In the 70's and 80's is when I built most of my kits. 1/72 scale, WWII is what I built the most but I do like 1/48 single engine fighters too. I have also built jets from the 50's, a few Sci Fi models and Gemini/Apollo program model kits from Revell and Monogram. My favorite builds are the old Revell, Matchbox, Frog and Airfix kits that needed some work but showed potential if built out of the box. In April 2020 I made my comeback into this great hobby after 30 years of not building a kit. I am pretty happy to be back.
FROG, ME-262A, Kit # F248, (1972)
On my return back to this hobby, I've been wanting to build a big collection of FROG kits. Since April last year I have built five and restored one. This Me-262 caught my eyes the other day and decided to [...]
This is Matchbox's 1/72 Spitfire Mk. IX (Pk-2) first released in 1972. In 1973 I built my first Spitfire from Matchbox and loved it. The one displayed here was made in 1984 and I converted it into a Mk. VIII.
There was a few things I [...]
This is the older release of KP's Avia CS-199 (1/72) that was released in 1978. Not exactly a kit that falls together and a bit more rougher than my recent KP Arado Ar-96 build. I went on to do some upgrades on fit issues, thinning down on [...]
This is Heller's Bf-109K converted to an Avia S-199. An enjoyable build, I took a kit that I was not too thrilled with as a 109K but had some fun making it to something that I like. This was Heller's first attempt (1976, Kit No. 074) to [...]
This is KP’s Arado Ar96B but boxed by Kopro-MasterCraft. The original KP kit was released in 1980. I have had KP kits in my stash years ago but never built them and got rid of them. But recently I picked up a few of them after seeing a [...]
My 1/72 Matchbox Do-18 (PK-409) build from 1986. An old build that needed some good cleaning and slight restoration. This was a big mess and I am pretty happy it is back in view again.
I remember enjoying this build very much. I did fill [...]
I built this kit a while ago around 1984, it was built straight out of the box. I used the "Sweet Sue" decal set from the Matchbox B-25 kit, the US insignias are from Microscale and the white stripes are also Microscale that cost [...]
The PZL P.7 was a single-engine fighter aircraft designed in Poland. First flight took place in September 1929, 149 machines were built in 1932/33. In September 1939 about 40 took part in the fighting but most of the P.7a were destroyed. [...]
This is my Matchbox Lancaster that was built in 1985, originally I started on the Airfix kit that was released in the late 70's but I had some pretty bad warpage on both wings. Usually I can fix warpage issues but both wings were twisted [...]
This is a nice model kit, Heller released this at 1977. It is a small model with fine raised lines and pretty nice fine details all over. I built up the cockpit area a little by adding a cage and small items on the side walls. The wing [...]
