Amazing Modeling Shop in Japan – Yodobashi
If you pass by Tokyo (Akihabara) or Osaka (Namba) do not miss the most amazing shop for hobby and modeling lovers; Yodobashi Camera!
This place is HUGE! HUGE! HUGE!
They have all types of tools, models (mainly Japanese brands), colors, etc. Even found some articles from Uschi. The only missing actor is AK Interactive.
If you may go there with your wife; plan an activity for her for the whole afternoon :-DD

Humm, I wonder if Japan has a sizeable percentage of inhabitants that buy and build models? This huge hobby warehouse is like nothing I’ve seen in Europe or North America…they are after all the inventors of bonsai

Did you come back bankrupt?

Hahhaha!! I spent a lot here and at Tamiya Plamodel Factory. The limited size of my luggage and the dark flashing eyes of my wife had positive effects on my credit card 😉

Limited size of your luggage had nothing to do with amount you left there 🙂

These are a dying breed – at least in the States…one can only wish! We do have a couple of independent hobby shops left in town that we local modelers support as much as we can, these kinds of places are few and far between, and don’t compare to this behemoth!

Absolutely loved it going there. The picture attached is from Volks Akihabara.
I also recommend Tamiya Plamodel Factory

Sweet! I was stationed in Japan at NAF Atsugi for 4 years and I am not sure anyone does a Hobby Shop like the Japanese! My local one was called Kit Box if I recall correctly, not nearly so grand, but just as much variety crammed into a small space. Another thing I loved about Japan was that many department stores had large model sections as well. And the magazines!!! I still peruse some of the armor magazines I bought there, can’t read most of them, but the pictures and building!
Thanks for sharing it brings back wonderful memories.

I Rod,
Actually my wife was living at Konandai and we spent quite a lot of time there. I remember some squadrons of Boeing Vertol flying over Kamakura; so impressive :-O
About magazine, I spent some time at Maruzen bookstore yesterday and found an amazing one about Hayashi Shuitchi the master of weathering.
Glad my little article brought you some nice memories 🙂
