Focke Wulf Fw-190D-9 (Tamiya 1/48)
Granted this older Tamiya kit has some issues, but it still makes an attractive build. This also presented an opportunity to practice airbrushing camo and mottle free-hand while trying to avoid a major mishap.
Kit decals were unusable so I added the EagleCals EC48-61 set. Also added the Eduard cockpit PE set, FE210. Cannon barrels were replaced with Albion alloy brass tube.
Finished with Mr Hobby and Tamiya paints, Tamiya panel liner and AK weathering pencils.
The antenna is EZ-Line with insulators made from PVA glue.
Nicely done, looks great. Yes the Tamiya kit has some issues, but really, except for the wheel wells not being open to the engine, the issues are pretty minor. Tamiya captured the look of the "Dora" quite nicely, and you painting is excellent
This turned out very beautifully. I lit looks great, nice workmanship on it.
Extremely nice “practice” airbrush work on your Dora. Painted like an expert!
Very nice paint job and a super result.
I highly recommend the Hobby Boss Doras, which include the open engine bay and engine; they're easier than the very fiddly Eduard Dora kits.
I agree wholeheartedly on all counts.
Your airbrush work looks superb.
Old kit or not, you covered it up with a gorgeous paint job.
Outstanding work and photography.
Excellent result on this Dora, Christopher @cchurch1117
Your paintbrush work turned out perfectly.
If I understand correctly, for the insulators you applied a drop of PVA glue. Did you apply that with a toothpick or something similar?
Yes, standard wooden toothpick and ZAP 560 canopy glue.
Excellent result, Christopher!
Fantastic build and subtle weathering Christopher. Lovely model 👍
Lovely work, you make this kit look far better than it is. I agree with everyone above, the fine demarcation lines are just perfect and very similar to the real thing. Well done!
Awesome paint job, I love it!
Can I ask you what nozzle, pressure and dilution you used to achieve this beautiful result?
Thanks.
80/20 thinner to paint ratio. ~12-15 psi. I'm used a Procon PS270 with a 0.2 needle.
Exhaust stain was 90/10.
Fine airbrushing and panel line work, Christopher...very sharp!
Great work on this classic Tamiya kit.
Very nice looking build. The build and the paint really came together to make a great looking model. Nice work on the cockpit too.
Well done all around
Nice build and the airbrushing looks exceptional!
Beautifully done!
This is a work of art. Well done!
