1/48 Seafire FR.46
This is the 1996 Airfix kit with a few upgrades. I actually built it for a group build on Roy Sutherland's Barracuda Studios Facebook page. I incorporated the following Barracuda products into the model: replacement prop blades, Griffon rocker panels, Spitfire cockpit snapshot items including the seat, stick, throttle, rudder pedals , and oxygen hose. I also added a Squadron vac canopy sliding section. The EDSG/Sky camo paint is from Xtracolor. Most of the other paints used were Tamiya. The decals are a mixture of kit, Aeromaster, and Model Alliance markings. Another one down for my Spitfire collection!
That is a handsome Spit, though the Griffon-powered monster almost doesn't seem like it belongs in the family... 🙂
The 20 series (Seafire 40 series) were originally not Spitfires. The name was going to be "Victor."
Thanks, Greg!
Super Spit there John. It really looks great. Personally I think it should be in your collection showing the ultimate development of the Spitfire. But I can definitely see where Greg is coming from, it really does seam like a completely different animal compared to the earlier Merlin powered Spits.
Thanks, Clint. Yes, they were very different airplanes from the original Mk.I.
What a beauty my friend @j-healy!
Congratulations!
Thanks, Spiros!
Fine looking Seafire, John @j-healy
Well done.
Thanks, John!
What a wonderful build!
Love the amazing details in the cockpit.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Alfred. The Barracuda items jazz it up a bit. Unfortunately, it’s hard to see being all black.
Excellent build and work. Really unique.
Thanks, Graeme!
Excellent build, John.
Thanks, Rafi!
Great looking build, John. @j-healy
Thanks, John!
So I haven't seen it built yet in this version. Beautiful.
Thanks, Milan! The penultimate Seafire.
Beautiful, and mean looking.
Very nice Seafire, John.
Thanks, George. The contraprops make it.
Very nicely done, a handsome Seafire!
Thanks, Bob!
Gorgeous build!
Thanks, Butch!
Lovely job John. I built the Mk 46/47 by Airfix and it was a heap of doo dahs. you have done an excellent build of her. Well done.
Simon
Thanks, Simon. I messed up a folded wing FR47 when these kits first came out too. It happens. In fact I just noticed that I inadvertently painted a clear panel at the top of the windscreen on this one! I’ve got another one of these kits in the stash to have another go at a 47. I might even use that kit’s 46 windscreen to replace the one on this model.
Looks terrific John @j-healy. I like the color scheme you chose. Yellow spinner really makes it with the tail feathers. You have any issues getting the wings to line up in the down position? I certainly did. I recall this kit was meant to show folded wings.
Thanks, Eric. No issues except those created by me, LOL. The kit comes with solid wings for the 46 and folded for the 47.
John, This is gorgeous, or as the Brits would call it "Splendid"! I really like the clean build, and the paint scheme looks great.
Thanks, the real plane looked pretty clean in the one photo that I found of it online. It was the commander’s plane from the Lossiemouth station flight. I like modeling clean planes so it was an appealing subject for me.
That's a real beauty - striking scheme.
Thanks, Chas.
