I build 1/72 aircraft, from WWII forward, only build them wheels-up. Until Dec. 2019, all my models were brush-painted (or rattle can if NMF). I finally entered the modern age of the airbrush at the end of that year.
Dad was a fighter pilot so I grew up on airbases - he was trained in T-28, T-34 & T-33, then flew F-100, F-101, F-105, F-4 (Cam Ranh Bay) and T-38 (as IP).
I'm a member of Tulsa Modeler's Forum club (www.tulsaipms.org).
Live in Tulsa, 6 kids, 1 GREAT wife.
Love the outdoors and good friends (stop and visit anytime you're in Tulsa!)
REALLY hope to build my complete stash before I die (does anyone actually know someone who has accomplished this?)!
I'm also a passionate follower of Jesus Christ, so if you ever feel the need for some extra prayer, feel free to reach out.
This was a nice little kit – engraved panel lines and some larger fastener details around the cowl/nose area. They were a bit like new Airfix kits, waaayyy over scale! I added a few additional missing panel lines and then riveted the [...]
I saw a beautiful 1/32 Burma theater Warhawk done by Will Pattinson on YouTube ((link)), and love the way he "double chipped" the wing root area with the hairspray technique for both the metal and primer, and wanted to try that [...]
Hopefully I'm not violating any iModeler rules here... but here goes.
A few months ago an older modeler passed away, and his son asked us to take about 1800+ models (mostly aircraft) off his hands, only asking that we get them donated to [...]
Our club held our annual contest and show on April 19th in the Tulsa area. We finally got our contest page updated with 60+ photos from the 324 models submitted. Some really nice work on display from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri and [...]
This was a pretty straightforward build after the last F-15DJ franken-build. Added resin sparrows and the sidewinders were from a Hasegawa weapons set. Did a bit of overspray with thinned paint to lighten some areas and knock down the [...]
This project took a few left turns. I had secured two Hasegawa F-15C kits over the years, either from ebay or from vendors at model shows. A few years back I saw a DMX decal set for Japanese F-15 aggressors, as the color schemes really [...]
Another addition to my Phantom project - an old Italeri kit. I did extensive riveting, and scratch-built the upper rear instrument panel, and I had to close off the back deck of the cockpit, but that's about all the additions to the box [...]
Andy Binks, a great photographer and contributor to the Asian Air Arms SIG website, snapped a bunch of photos from the show related to the subject and sent them to me to post to the AAA site. I asked if I could double post here, and he [...]
I saw a couple of images of the Lysander in this Burma scheme, found decals for it, and boom! - project on! I had this old bagged Airfix kit in the stash, and with the ribbing and rivets already there, it had a surprisingly good exterior [...]
This is a VERY old Revell kit. The plastic had a few raised lines, the radar was very thick and clunky, and there was not a shred of detail in the cockpit.
So...started by sanding off all the raised lines, in prep for scribing and [...]
